Distributor, franchise and wholesale territories open across north India

The marble bottle, exported

Hiram Codd patented this bottle in England in 1872. Japan calls it ramune and sells it to forty countries. India calls it goli soda and has never seriously exported it. We have been making soda in north India since 1984, and we are looking for importers, distributors and own-brand buyers who can see what that gap is worth.

Why this product travels

Four reasons that hold up in a buying meeting, not four reasons that sound good in a brochure.

Forty years in the hardest trade there is

Sagar Beverages has been making soda in north India since 1984. Four decades of that in the unorganised market — no listing fees, no contracts, no shelf space anyone owes you. A shopkeeper reorders because the last case sold and the one before it arrived on time, or he does not reorder at all. That is the same test an importer applies, and we have been passing it since 1984.

The bottle is the product

A codd-neck marble bottle is the same format sold worldwide as ramune, and the United States is the largest buyer of it on earth. Almost nobody outside Japan runs a codd-neck line. We do, in India, at Indian cost.

It sells on recognition

A new flavour asks a shopper to take a risk. A marble bottle asks them to pick up something they already understand. That is the difference between a listing that reorders and one that gets delisted after a season.

Two audiences, one SKU

Diaspora buy it because they remember it. Everyone else buys it because the bottle is unusual and the marble is a small event. The same case serves an Indian grocer in Leicester and an Asian aisle in Chicago.

Glass holds its price

A returnable glass bottle carries a premium that PET and cans do not, and it survives a thirty day sea leg without any change to the drink. The format that makes shipping harder is the same one that makes the margin work.

Markets we are opening

Each page sets out the regulator, the certification, the tax and the one thing that catches importers out in that country.

Phase 3

Proven category, hardest paperwork. Worth doing properly rather than quickly.

How a first order actually happens

Five steps, no theatre.

  1. 01

Tell us the market and the volume

Country, channel, rough quantity, and whether you already hold an import licence. That is enough for us to be useful on the first call.

  2. 02

We come back with the honest position

A costed offer, the certification you will need, the label changes required for your market, and a realistic date. Including the parts that are difficult.

  3. 03

    Samples and specification

Physical samples, full specification sheet, nutritional analysis and our FSSAI documentation for your due diligence file.

  4. 04

    Label artwork for your market

We produce market-specific artwork rather than stickering an Indian label. You approve it before anything is printed.

  5. 05

    First container

Produced to order so shelf life is intact on arrival, packed for sea freight, documented for your regulator.

Exporting Zeros

How long has Sagar Beverages been manufacturing?

Since 1984 — over forty years. Almost all of it in India's unorganised beverage trade, supplying independent retail across the north through distributors and direct routes. That matters to an importer for one reason: the risk in a first container is not the first container, it is whether the supplier is still there for the fourth. We have outlasted four decades of a market with no contracts in it.

What exactly is goli soda?

A lemon soda in a glass bottle sealed by a marble held shut by the drink’s own carbonation. The bottle was invented in England in 1872 by Hiram Codd, and it took root in two places: Japan, where it is called ramune, and India, where it is called goli soda. Same engineering, different century of tradition. Ours is made in Himachal Pradesh.

Which countries do you currently export to?

We are opening United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, Indonesia in that order of priority. If your market is not listed, ask anyway — the constraint is usually certification lead time rather than willingness.

What is your minimum order quantity?

One 20ft container as a standard first order. That is the point at which sea freight per case stops dominating the landed cost. Smaller trial quantities are possible through consolidation, and we would rather do a small honest first order than a large one that sits in your warehouse.

Can you produce under our own brand?

Yes. The codd-neck bottle is the part that is genuinely hard to source, and we run it as private label as readily as we run it as Zeros. Custom label, custom flavour profile and custom case configuration are all available.

Are you FSSAI licensed and can you support FDA or FSA compliance?

We produce under FSSAI licence 20926012000879 at our own plant in Amb, Himachal Pradesh. We supply the producer-side documentation your regulator will ask for — facility details, specification, nutritional analysis, batch traceability. The importer-side registrations belong to you, and each country page on this site sets out exactly which is which.

What is the shelf life and does it survive sea freight?

6 months from production. Glass is inert, so the drink itself is unaffected by a long sea leg — the constraint is arithmetic, not chemistry. Several markets require a minimum proportion of shelf life remaining at the port, which is why we produce to order rather than shipping from stock.
